Hi, my name is Don, A ninth generation Vermonter. I've been making screen doors since 1989. My doors have appeared in news papers and magazines, and I have written for fine home building on how to make screen doors.
While working as a craftsman at Basin Harbor Resort in Vermont, I was asked to make screen doors for homes and cottages, often because store bought doors would not take the abuse from the constant use. Soon I envisioned the structural parts of the door becoming an image. The Design in the door is made of the same wood as the rest of the door. Each part is put together like a jigsaw puzzle, taking careful consideration of the grain direction and proper joinery. These are not plywood C.N.C. cut outs.
I make the doors out of quality eastern pine, It holds up well, is the right weight, and sounds good when shutting. I have had the opportunity to see my doors last for decades, and know my doors are artwork that will increase in value, and become collectible, cherished artwork reminding a family of good times.
